Cleaning Out the Garbage

Galatians 5:17 (NIV)-For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature.  They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.

Colossians 3:5 (NIV)-Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature:  sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.

John 15:10 (NIV)-If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in His love.

Ephesians 1:7(NIV)-In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.

Most people go through a ritual of cleaning all the garbage and accumulated junk from their homes each new year to make room for all the new stuff that takes its place.  It all piles up so quickly and before you know it, there's no more room to put anything else.

That's how it is in our lives.  We allow sin to creep in until it has filled every area of our heart, mind and soul.  Everything the world has to offer becomes the main desire and we become blind to the sin that is taking control.  Sin can start out very subtle and like a virus, it spreads and spreads until it destroys all the good God placed inside our spiritual beings until there is no more room for God.  The Bible speaks of the treasures within our hearts and how it reflects who we really are.  Matthew 6:21(NIV)-For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.   What we desire most is the true treasure that lies inside our hearts.  Whatever we allow to take control or become more important to us than God, is idolatry.  Sin comes from our biggest enemy, the devil.  The Bible teaches that Satan is a liar and the father of all lies and no good is found in him.  He uses sin to lure, distract and destroy God's people from what is truly right in order to separate us from God.

Those who have not received Jesus as their Lord and Savior are walking in darkness and sin.  They have decided to follow after the temporary things and pleasures of this world which leads to everlasting death.  Those who have asked Jesus into their hearts to be their Lord and Savior, are walking in the light (truth) of God's Word.  They have been given a promise that nothing, not even hell itself, will separate them from God and His love.  They have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ which was shed (once and for all) on the cross.  He conquered every sin, sickness, disease, death, hell and the grave.  Jesus paved the way to freedom for all who are willing to surrender their hearts over to Him.

Just like we have to take and clean out the garbage in our homes, we have to get rid of all the junk in our lives if we truly want to be free of sin.  You may say, "But you don't know what all I have done." "How can God ever forgive someone like me?"  Jesus said it doesn't matter what we have done in our lives, He came so we could have life and have it more abundantly through Him.  He loves you just the way you are.  He came to set you free, to give you a new life, a new beginning.  We throw away all the junk we clean out and that is exactly what Jesus wants to do to our hearts.  He wants to take all the greed, lust, adultery, murder, porn, hate, idolatry and sin that enslaves us and throw it all away.  He desires to clean up what's inside our hearts.  Once our heart is lined up with God, our thoughts will be different also.  Then, our actions will change according to what we now think because God has placed His desires inside our minds and heart when we turn it all over to Him.  The Bible says, our old ways are gone and behold, we are now made new in Christ Jesus.  Our sins are tossed as far as the east is from the west and He promises to remember them no more.  That is how great God's love for us is.  You may be struggling right now with so many sins that it is taking away your life.  There is so much emptiness and no matter how hard you try to fill the empty voids with more sin, it just gets worse.  There is no real happiness walking in sin.  It makes people feel hopeless and unrepairable.  God in His great mercy is waiting at the door...knocking at your heart...waiting for you to let Him come in and get rid of all that junk for you.  All you have to do is recognize your sin, ask for forgiveness and allow Jesus to come into your life so you can be made brand new and whole again.

Sin accumulates in our lives like junk builds up in our homes. We throw it out and sweep it away, so our home is clean once more.  Let God do the same thing to your life.  Only He can clean out the clutter and all the garbage in your life once and for all so your heart will be forever changed.  His plans for you are greater than anything your heart could ever imagine. Nothing is impossible with God so, what are you waiting for?  It's time to take out the trash!

Matthew 6:22-24(NIV)-"The eye is the lamp of the body.  If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.  But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness.  If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!  No one can serve two masters.  Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve both God and money."
