A Faith That Moves Mountains

There is a Faith mentioned in the Bible that literally moves mountains out of our way. Jesus spoke about this kind of Faith in Matthew 21:21. Jesus answered them, “I assure you: If you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you tell this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done. (Matthew 21:21 HCSB)

How is this type of Faith even possible? Jesus gave many examples of what true Faith can do while He was healing others or talking to them through parables so they could understand the works of the Holy Spirit. You see, with God (Yahweh) all things are possible and without Faith it is impossible to please God. He desires a heart that truly believes and does not doubt the works of His Holy Spirit or in His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. If you are a born again Christian, which means you have trusted in, relied on, and received Jesus into your heart as your personal Savior, that kind of Faith does belong to you. You have become adopted into the Kingdom of God and therefore, you are an heir with Jesus. His Holy Spirit works in and through you.

The Noah Webster Dictionary 1828, describes Faith in the following paragraphs: “To trust, to persuade, to draw towards anything, to conciliate, to believe, to obey”.

* Belief; the assent of the mind to the truth of what is declared by another, resting on his authority and veracity, without other evidence; the judgment that what another states or testifies is the truth.

* In theology, the assent of the mind or understanding to the truth of what God has revealed. Simple belief of the scriptures, of the being and perfections of God, and of the existence, character and doctrines of Christ, founded on the testimony of the sacred writers.

* Evangelical, justifying, or saving faith, is the assent of the mind to the truth of divine revelation, on the authority of God's testimony, accompanied with a cordial assent of the will or approbation of the heart; an entire confidence or trust in God's character and declarations, and in the character and doctrines of Christ, with an unreserved surrender of the will to his guidance, and dependence on his merits for salvation. In other words, that firm belief of God's testimony, and of the truth of the gospel, which influences the will, and leads to an entire reliance on Christ for salvation.

“Being justified by faith.” Rom. 5.

“Without faith it is impossible to please God.” Heb. 11.

“For we walk by faith, and not by sight.” 2Cor. 5.

“With the heart man believeth to righteousness.” Rom. 10.

* The faith of the gospel is that emotion of the mind, which is called trust or confidence, exercised towards the moral character of God, and particularly of the Savior. Faith is an affectionate practical confidence in the testimony of God. Faith is a firm, cordial belief in the veracity of God, in all the declarations of his word; or a full and affectionate confidence in the certainty of those things which God has declared, and because he has declared them. The object of belief; a doctrine or system of doctrines believed; a system of revealed truths received by Christians.

“They heard only, that he who persecuted us in times past, now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.” Gal. 1.

The promises of God, or his truth and faithfulness. “Shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?” Rom. 3. ]

In order to build up a Faith that is steadfast and unwavering, you have to continue in God’s Word, embed it into your heart, and meditate on it regularly. Walking by Faith and not focusing your belief based on what you see happening around you, takes a mature heart that has dedicated itself to studying, learning, practicing, and living by Faith. Jesus was our perfect example of what it truly means to walk in a Faith that is totally dedicated in complete trust to the Father without doubting. Jesus spent His time on earth teaching the importance of Faith and how it operates in a believer’s life. He said in Matthew 17:20, …“For I assure you: If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20 HCSB

God will test our Faith in Him not to hurt us, but to bring about endurance and prepare us for whatever trials come up next. “…knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.” James 1:3 HCSB. We are strengthened by every obstacle we face and overcome through Jesus. He has promised to never leave us or forsake us. When we look back in remembrance of how Jesus brought us out of difficult times, we are able to see His faithfulness in every trial and learn to lean on the promises in His Word. Relying on Jesus to work it out His way, causes our Faith to grow. Everyone puts their trust in something. But not everything we trust in benefits us. The only trust we know that works miracles on our behalf is the Faith we place in Jesus. He is the only one who can perfect our Faith. “…keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.” Hebrews 12:2 HCSB.

In order to have Faith, Jesus said we must believe. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths.” Proverbs 3:6 HCSB

“So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18 HCSB

“So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.” Romans 10:17 HCSB

I pray you will continue to search out the Lord in His Word and allow your Faith to grow. You will see the goodness of the Lord while in the land of the living, as He promises in His Word. AMEN!
