Genesis 49:18 (NKJV) -I have waited for Your salvation, O Lord!

Psalm 25:4-5(NKJV) -4/Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths.  5/Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day.

Psalm 27:14(NKJV) -Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say on the Lord!

Psalm 33:20(NKJV)-Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.

Isaiah 40:31(NKJV) -But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

Lamentations 3:25(NKJV) -The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him.

What does it really mean to wait on something?  The dictionary gives several definitions as follows: "To look forward to eagerly; To continue as one is in expectation of; An interval of waiting; To be available or in readiness."

Throughout the entire Bible, we are told to wait upon God for various reasons.  We wait for answers, we wait in prayer, we wait to hear God's voice and direction in our lives, we wait before we speak so our words will lift the spirit of others in need. But, above all this, we wait patiently for the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Waiting brings strength and endurance even during the most trying moments.  Through patient waiting, we learn to totally rely on God by faith.  There are times when people get tired of waiting and just grow weary to the point of giving up.  The Bible speaks about how God pours out His blessings upon those who will earnestly wait upon Him.  He knows how difficult life can be for us and how impatient we all are at times.  That is why Jesus sent His Holy Spirit to come and be our teacher, guide, comforter, healer, peace, deliverer, helper, strength and so much more.  While we are waiting for God, we expect Him to do exactly what He said in His Word to us.  God wants people to believe in Him and settle it in their hearts once and for all that He is in control no matter what is happening around them.

The greatest and most joyful waiting period as a Christian is Jesus' return for all those who have chosen to believe in Him as their Lord and Savior.  One day very soon Jesus is going to come back to take with Him the body of Christ (His Church) to heaven and there we will be with Him forever more.  That is absolutely the greatest wait and anticipation for us while on this earth.  1 Thessalonians 4:16-17(NKJV)-For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and the trumpet of God.  And the dead in Christ [those believers who have died before this great event takes place] will rise first.  Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.  And thus, we shall always be with the Lord.  The Bible teaches that we are to guard our hearts and put a watch on our lips because we do not know when He will return, and we do not want to be caught off guard.

I have learned over the years that waiting is a sacrifice on our part which does not go unrewarded.  If we will diligently seek God and stay in His Word, we will not only grow in Him but, be able to stand stronger as we patiently wait for the answers.  I am so thankful for God's patience and mercy upon my life during all the times I grew frustrated and impatient.  I wanted the answers to come "now" rather than later.  Looking back however, I can see how immature I really was as a Christian and why waiting on God first was so important.  When we seek self-gratification, it only leads to bad, hasty decisions that we regret later.   Whenever I gave up too soon on God and tried to make things happen faster my way; the outcome was never good.  Because I had over-stepped God's plan, there was always chaos and confusion.  God teaches us that confusion is not from Him.  The devil comes to attack our thoughts during all those weak moments hoping we will start doubting what God can do for us.  The price we pay for becoming overly anxious and not waiting on God becomes a lesson we do not want to repeat again.  However, sometimes we do!  We think we've learned our lesson and that it will be easier to hold on and wait the next time.  Then, when a different circumstance arises, we either decide to hang on and wait patiently for God's perfect answer or become impatient and let our "hurry up" attitude kick in.  God knows it is very difficult for us when we become overly anxious and excited about something good that's happened or extremely sad and discouraged by a heart wrenching experience.  That is why it is so important to turn to God in prayer and especially in His Word.  The peace He gives, and His presence enables us to endure day by day or moment by moment.   Thankfully, in all that time of waiting, God promises to never leave us or forsake us.  Not only is He always with us but, He supplies us with everything we need if we remain faithful and diligent in Him.

"Dear Lord, even though each new day holds many mysteries that I do not know; I will continue to be patient and just keep waiting here for You."   ~Crickettt~

Proverbs 8:32-36(NKJV)-"Now therefore, listen to me, my children, for blessed are those who keep my ways.  Hear instruction and be wise, and do not disdain it.  Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.  For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord; but he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; All those who hate me love death."
